Fun Ways to Enjoy God’s Beautiful Creation this Fall

In the midst of our busy schedules, fall gives families a natural reason to pause and marvel at God’s magnificent creation.

Enjoy Simple Moments and Abundant Blessings

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to glow with color, fall reminds us of the beauty and creativity of God’s handiwork. It’s a season that invites us to slow down, take a deep breath, and truly notice the world around us—the crunch of leaves underfoot, the scent of apples and bonfires, the cozy evenings spent together as daylight fades a little sooner each night. In the midst of our busy schedules, fall gives families a natural reason to pause and marvel at God’s creation, to enjoy simple moments together, and to reflect on His abundant goodness. Here are a few ways to make the most of this special time of year while celebrating God’s beautiful world:

🍂 Explore the Outdoors

Take a family walk or hike and notice the brilliant reds, oranges, and golds of the trees. Encourage your children to collect leaves, acorns, or pinecones—and remind them that just as each leaf is unique, so are we, wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14). Here are some wonderful local spots you may want to explore.

🍎 Visit a Local Orchard or Pumpkin Patch

Minnesota is full of places to pick apples or search for the perfect pumpkin. Use the opportunity to talk about God’s blessings through the harvest and the joy of sharing those blessings with others. Maybe bake an apple pie together and deliver one to a neighbor or friend! Here are two of the many, many options in our area.

🎨 Create Fall-Inspired Art

Gather leaves, twigs, or seeds and use them to make art projects that reflect the beauty of the season. Whether it’s leaf rubbings or pumpkin paintings, these creative moments can help kids see God’s artistry all around them. Consider creating one of the crafts below.

🔥 Cozy Up for Family Devotions

As evenings grow cooler, snuggle under a blanket and spend time in prayer or a short family devotion. Talk about thankfulness, creation, or how we can let our light shine even as days grow shorter. Consider using one of the options listed here.

🙏 Give Thanks Together

All good things come from our Lord, and giving thanks for them helps us to recognize His goodness in our everyday lives. Consider one of the ideas below to help foster a spirit of gratitude and recognition for the many blessings we receive from our Father each and every day.

  • Start a “Thankful Tree” or “Gratitude Garland” at home by adding paper leaves labeled with things your family is grateful for. It’s a wonderful reminder that God’s goodness surrounds us every day—through nature, family, and community.
  • Do a Thanksgiving Nature Walk: as you walk, each person names something they thank God for and links it to what you see (e.g. “I’m thankful for these red leaves — God made colors!”).
  • Plan a blessing delivery: bake muffins or cookies and deliver them to a neighbor, elderly person, or someone in need—share God’s love through thanksgiving.

This fall, take time to slow down, appreciate the beauty of the season, and see God in every leaf, sunset, and laugh together. His glory and creativity is on colorful display! Let this season and His goodness draw you nearer to Him and to one another. 🍁
