At St. John’s Lutheran School, faith formation is central to our mission. We are committed to fostering spiritual growth and Christian character in every student, equipping them to live out their faith with confidence and purpose. By cultivating a strong Lutheran identity and modeling Christlike service, we guide students to understand, embrace, and share their faith in meaningful ways.
What Faith Formation Looks Like at St. John’s
Modeling Christlike Relationships
Pastors, faculty, and staff serve as Christian role models and examples of godly servants. Students witness daily prayer, forgiveness in action, and participation in all-school service and chapel projects. Through these experiences, students learn to embody Christ’s love in their relationships and interactions with others.
Defending the Faith with Confidence
In 8th grade, students take a Logic class led by Pastor Moss, focusing on apologetics. This course equips them with the tools to defend their faith, helping them clearly articulate what they believe and why.
Growing in Lutheran Worship and Identity
Students grow in their faith through meaningful worship and a deep understanding of Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod doctrine. Weekly chapel services follow the Lutheran Service Book and the order of Matins, complemented by the learning and singing of hymns. Special grade-level choir and handbell performances enrich this worship experience, allowing even preschoolers to participate meaningfully and develop a lifelong connection to faith and song.
Religious education begins in preschool and continues through 8th grade, guided by pastors who lead chapel, teach confirmation classes, and visit classrooms weekly. Using the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism, students build a strong foundation in Lutheran theology. Supported by teachers who are active LCMS church members, students graduate with confidence in what they believe, why they believe it, and how to find biblical truth.
Serving Others with Purpose
Faith formation extends beyond the classroom and into the community. Students participate in service projects like highway cleanups, comfort dog ministries, and supporting missionaries in Costa Rica. Through singing at nursing homes and other outreach efforts, they demonstrate Christ’s love both locally and globally.
